As the InstallAwards draw nearer, we take a closer look at the star product in the Residential category. This category covers installations in private houses but is also open to projects in multi-dwelling units.
The Star Product Award focuses on a single part of the installation – a product that performs a key role in the overall system design. We’re especially interested in products that provide a new solution for an existing issue. As in 2014, winners will be decided by our panel of independent judges.
Atlona AT-PRO2HD1616M – Bismarck, North Dakota install
Every family member now has access to media entertainment through their own suite with full control of all 14 displays from the master bedroom.
The Atlona 16×16 matrix switcher was the key component in this large residential install. The matrix switcher uses HDBaseT technology and allows IR, RS-232, video and audio signals over a single CAT5e/6/7 cable up to 328ft. The switcher can control up to 32 devices at 1080p and is control system agnostic regardless of native resolutions, making it the ideal device for this installation.
Basalte Sentido – Grey Timbers
To create this integrated home solution, the faulty control system was replaced with a smart home system to control lighting and heating reliably and efficiently through touch keypads.
Sentido is a touch-sensitive keypad with a sleek and minimalistic European design hand finished in a wide variety of materials. The separate touch- sensitive surfaces create an easy way to control various functions, in this case heating and lighting.
In the case of Grey Timbers the Sentido was used largely to add lighting atmosphere in the entertainment spaces and control the under floor heating. The flexible lighting solution offered by Sentido provided the client with the ability to create moods as well as sufficient light for bowling and other entertainment.
Crestron TSW-1052 touchscreen – Surrey Family Home
The fully integrated control system in this spacious Surrey home provides control of AV, heating and lighting throughout on a room-by-room or floorplan overview basis.
With the Crestron TSW-1052 touchscreen a single Cat6 with POE is the only connection required; the screen clicks into a standard UK back-box using magnets built into the back.
The screen took full advantage of Crestron’s ‘Smart Graphics’ to create a user interface with unparalleled functionality.
Video feeds from the CCTV cameras and the Crestron Digital Media system are streamed to the touchscreen. The DM link means the clients can view and cue up TV channels and movies on the touchscreen before changing the TV channel.
