A new category to the InstallAwards for 2015 is hospitality, this covers installations in hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants: venues where design and ambience is all-important, and the installation is an important contributor to this.
Although, there wasn’t a Hospitality category in the 2014 InstallAwards, there was one shortlisted project that would have fitted the bill, which was the Kelly Hoppen Luxury Model Hotel Suite by Pixel Projects. The integrator was tasked with designing and installing a guest automation scheme for a luxury five-star hotel suite designed as a showcase for a new collection of products from interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE.
The project highlighted how to incorporate technological advances such as ‘stream your own device’ so it need not be a threat to the hotelier’s revenue. This was achieved by integrating a digital concierge system into an iPad, harnessing the technology to drive up revenue per room. The installation also showed how technology can complement interior design rather than fight against it, thanks in part to Pixel Projects’ elegant integrated technology system.
The brief was to incorporate TV, lighting and audio control; however Pixel Projects was able to meet several additional needs as well as offering a future-enabled solution. Pre-programmed keypads were provided as an alternative to the iPad, to ensure that non-technical guests felt comfortable.
There is no fee to enter a project for the InstallAwards, and any company or individual can submit up to three entries – either in the same category or across multiple categories.
For the 2015 InstallAwards, projects from all six categories will compete for a single Team of the Year Award.
