InfoComm 2015: Harman acquires SVSi and launches JBL and Martin products

Harman International has announced the acquisition of SVSi, a manufacturer of networked AV products over IP, based in Huntsville, Alabama. Harman brands JBL Professional and Martin Professional have launched new loudspeakers and lighting products at InfoComm showing at booth 2218.

SVSi will join Harman Professional’s Video and Control Strategic Business Unit (SBU) led by Rashid Skaf and marketed under the AMX by Harman brand. The SVSi portfolio contains a full range of encoders and decoders, windowing/wall processors, an audio transceiver, video recorder, and management software.

“Harman was early to recognise the emergence and potential of AV over IP,” commented Blake Augsburger, president Harman Professional Division. “For more than six years, we have been steadily introducing new products to serve growing customer demand for IP-based products. With the acquisition of SVSi, we will accelerate our development plan with the addition of extraordinary expertise from the SVSi team.”

“As an independent company, SVSi has enjoyed tremendous success and acceptance of our networked AV solutions,” said Andy Whitehead, SVSi president and founder. “By joining forces with Harman, we can deliver the benefits of our solutions to more customers, faster than we could do on our own.”

SVSi products are available immediately from existing SVSi or AMX dealers.

Elsewhere at Harman, JBL Professional has expanded its PD series loudspeakers introducing the PD500 series, which will include five new models. The series utilises the same high-frequency drivers as the PD6000 series, which makes them suited to sports facilities, performance spaces and auditoriums.

The PD500 series is made up of four horn-loaded 15in two-way systems and one dual15in subwoofer. The loudspeakers include horn coverage patterns of 40° x 40°, 60° x 40°, 60° x 60°, and 90° x 50°. All models are available in black, white, and JBL’s WRC weather protection and WRX extreme weather protection finishes.

“Over the past few years the market has asked JBL to provide more compact horn-loaded systems at a competitive price point,” said Jon Sager, senior manager, Installed Sound, JBL Professional. “We are extremely sensitive to the needs of our customers and are now able to equip system designers with new technologies and multiple coverage patterns, at a more affordable cost.”

Finally, Martin Professional is showcasing the RUSH by Martin line of lighting solutions for the installation market. The line combines effects lighting with proprietary LED technology to offer powerful light output and reliability for permanent installations.

There are nine fixtures in the RUSH range, the three foremost of the new products are the Gobo Projector 1, the FiberSource 1, and the PAR 2 CT Zoom.

The Gobo Projector 1 is aimed at permanent installations in bars, restaurants and shopping malls. It uses E-sized gobos and 20 W LED array light source projecting a 17° beam angle with an estimated minimum LED lifetime of 30,000 hours. The FiberSource 1 is an automated colour-changing luminaire that can illuminate up to 300 1mm fibre optic cables and has a 78 W LED engine. The PAR 2 CT Zoom is a single lens LED PAR Can with fully pre-mixed white colour temperatures for entertainment and installation markets.

The other six fixtures are: PAR 2 RGBW Zoom; MH1 Profile Plus; MH5 Profile; MH 3 Beam; MH 4 Beam; MH2 Wash.
