Helvar lighting joins EnOcean Alliance’s wireless energy-saving mission

Lighting system manufacturer Helvar has signed up as a participant member of the EnOcean Alliance, contributing to its mission of developing energy-harvesting wireless monitoring and control systems for sustainable, green buildings.

Lighting system manufacturer Helvar has signed up as a participant member of the EnOcean Alliance, contributing to its mission of developing energy-harvesting wireless monitoring and control systems for sustainable, green buildings. The company’s first EnOcean-compatible products are expected from summer 2013 and will provide a gateway to Helvar lighting control systems.

EnOcean has a portfolio of battery-less, maintenance-free products that monitor and save energy. The EnOcean Alliance is a consortium of companies working together to formalise an interoperable wireless standard.
Helvar says that much of its product release programme shares these goals, with sustainability and LED technology being key issues across the lighting industry.

“We are fully aware of how important interoperability is to specifiers and consultants and I’m pleased that Helvar can grow the lighting control side of the EnOcean Alliance,” said Paul Wilmshurst (right of picture), Helvar’s managing director. “The green credentials of EnOcean are an obvious and comfortable fit for the direction in which we are moving at Helvar.”

Andreas Schneider (left of picture), chief marketing officer and co-founder of EnOcean, commented: “To have a company with the heritage and market position of Helvar join the alliance is extremely beneficial to end-users and reinforces how important EnOcean solutions have become. I’m excited to see its first EnOcean-based product as, besides HVAC, lighting is one of the main consumers of energy in buildings. That said, Helvar’s existing solutions are known for shifting this trend.”

Adding further wireless products to its range enables Helvar to continue to address the residential market, catering for listed buildings and modern design-conscious properties where wireless is often a must. At the same time, Helvar’s EnOcean-based products will also be relevant to commercial projects, where they have the potential to work in sync with other BMS technologies such as automated blinds and HVAC.
