Flat panel speaker focus for Carlsbro

The result of a two-year development project, the new NlightN NXT driven flat panel sound reinforcement speakers from Carlsbro will be shown in Frankfurt this week.

The NlightN flat panel speakers were assembled at the company’s Ningbo factory near Shanghai, and are designed to suit a variety of applications in portable PA, AV installation and commercial audio.

The speakers use six small, mathematically-positioned exciters to generate bending waves across the entire surface of a stiff panel membrane. The exciters used in the NlightN speakers are based on conventional moving voice coils. The movement of the panel creates a diffuse soundfield that provides an immersive audio experience: the dispersion from an NlightN speaker is almost omnidirectional across its full frequency range and there is no change in the clarity of the audio signal, irrespective of listening angle. This makes the panel ideal for public address and architectural applications.

With no phase cancellations resulting from adjacent channel interference between panels, NlightN panel speakers offer a performance advantage in multi-room and multi-speaker environments, and for sound installations in small spaces. Moreover, sound pressure level is said to be maintained over a far greater distance, falling off at a much gentler rate than with conventional speakers, producing an extended soundfield of almost uniform volume level. The effect of this is to reduce the usual disparity in SPLs between listeners close to a speaker and those further away, enabling signals to be intelligible over a far greater distance without subjecting those close to the speaker to uncomfortable signal levels.

NlightN panel speakers can be mounted in numerous different ways with different fixtures, including PA stands and directly onto walls and other surfaces. The panel surfaces can also be painted or printed with images, corporate logos etc, in order to provide ‘invisible’ sound reinforcement.
