First UK InfoComm Academy Day set for April

Three educational seminars will be followed by a Regional Roundtable at the 23 April event, reports David Davies.

Three educational seminars will be followed by a Regional Roundtable at the 23 April event, reports David Davies. The first InfoComm International Academy Day to be held in the UK will take place at London’s Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, which is sponsoring the day alongside UK AV distributor RGB Communications.

The seminars will include: ‘An Introduction to the Audio Coverage Uniformity Performance Standard’, ANSI/INFOCOMM 1M-2009, presided over by InfoComm International’s senior VP for international development, Terry Friesenborg; ‘Predictable Performance in Your Projected Display’, hosted by Paradigm AV founder Greg Jeffreys, who is to become president of InfoComm International in 2012; and ‘3D Stereoscopic Imaging’, presented by RGB Communications and hosted by David Aleksandersen, CPS training programme manager at projectiondesign.

The educational seminars are all approved to provide InfoComm certification renewal units. The ensuing Roundtable will give attendees the chance to network with their peers, find out the latest InfoComm news, and suggest ways in which InfoComm can help their businesses and the wider industry.

Chris Lavelle (pictured), InfoComm regional manager, UK & Ireland, told IE: “The Academy Day is a first for InfoComm here in the UK. We are very excited about our new method of delivering education and networking, delivering interesting content by quality presenters. We feel this is excellent value for money for a day of education where one can meet new people and gain renewal units for those that hold a CTS accreditation.”

The Academy Day sessions are open to all, with registration costing £60 per person, excluding VAT. InfoComm members pay £40 and can use EduBucks to gain a 50% discount off this. The Roundtable component is free to attend, but is open only to InfoComm members and invited guests.

InfoComm will stage three further Regional Roundtables in the wake of the London event, calling at Manchester (Macdonald Hotel, 26 April), Edinburgh (University Library, 27 April) and Dublin (Red Cow Hotel, 29 April), with more to take place later in the year. These events will also be free to members and invited guests.

The focus for the April Roundtables will be on data from the organisation’s Market Definition & Strategy Study – billed as the first-ever survey of the global AV industry – and another InfoComm-commissioned report, Building Automation – Opportunities and Challenges for the Audiovisual Industry.

Those wishing to attend an InfoComm Event in their area should contact Christopher Lavelle ([email protected]) or Sarah Carless ([email protected]) with a request to reserve a place.
