Crestron Leeds the way with new centre

The new centre from Crestron, which demonstrates the company's goal of educating customers on its technology, is the second of its type in Europe and third globally.

Crestron opened the doors to its new Design and Experience Centre in Leeds on 1 March and invited customers to a first look at the new facility. The centre showcased Crestron’s technology through a complete building solution – inclusive of lighting and multi-room audio controlled via wall panels. Meanwhile a design suite could be used to bring customers’ ideas and requirements to life, with the option of full schematics printed onto A3. In addition, a fully operational commercial boardroom had been equipped with, amongst other devices, Crestron’s DGE-2 powered by Core3UI, which enables annotation of live video content over HDMI; something, the company says, no one else can currently offer. Intended to attract dealers, contractors, end-users and architects, the centre is available as both a drop-in centre – to devise design solutions for projects – and for scheduled presentations and CPD events. Plans are already in place to host seminars for the benefit of RIBA members and engineers. “We do so many different things now it’s hard for people to understand the vertical market that we’re operating in,” said Mark Tallent, lighting and building controls product manager at Crestron. “The industry and technology changes so fast that people can’t keep up with it, and this venue offers customers a chance to experience the changing products, with the advantage of a hands-on experience.” Located in an urban development area by Iglo – a professional development firm which has projects nationwide – the centre extends the company’s customer reach to the other side of the Peninnes. “It’s business-based in its geographical location, and is a central location for the north as you have Manchester and Liverpool down the road, Newcastle and Nottingham close by and you can be in London in two hours. Its one of the fastest growing cities with all the major banks here as well as a lot of the accountancy firms such as KPMG,” continued Tallent. He finished: “It’s almost like a living tradeshow stand and is better than that in some ways. The problem with ISE and the major shows is that they’re now so big that 3 days is not enough to get around, and for some people it’s too much, so you can’t really win.” With similar facilities already in place in Frankfurt and New York, Crestron plans to open another centre in London later this year, with no details of its exact locations as of yet. www.crestron.co.uk
