CEDIA to host home technology education in South Africa

CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) has unveiled details of its latest one week home technology event for the South African residential custom installation sector.

CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) has unveiled details of its latest one week home technology event for the South African residential custom installation sector. It will take place from 23 – 27 July 2012 at the Helderfontein Conference Centre, Johannesburg.

The annoucement comes as the organisation releases new Copyright Guidance Notes as part of its (UK) new Management Resources White Paper. The new document explores ownership of the source code and the respective rights of the installer and the client in respect of the code under the UK copyright law.
 In South Africa, CEDIA’s wide-ranging home technology even programme will feature 15 technical training courses across both installer and designer tracks.
 Manufacturers and distributors, are set to include Artcoustic, AV Specialists, Elan Home, Elan SA, iLED, Jamo, Opus, Niles, NuVo Technologies, Radionic and Vogels will be hosting product displays and focused education sessions throughout the week.
 “We’re offering a broad range of courses to South African designers and installers during an intensive week of education,” said Matt Dodd, CEDIA’s Education Chair. “These will include sessions on HDMI Distribution Methodology and Technology, High Performance Audio, Tablet and IP Technology in Control Systems, a Home Cinema Design Workshop, Technology and Consumer Trends, LED Lighting Technology and Interfaces, Maintenance and Aftercare and many more.”
 He added: “This year, we are extremely fortunate to have Rich Green teaching again. Rich is the owner of a leading systems integration company in Silicon Valley, U.S. and his knowledge and insights are unique within the industry. We are delighted will be sharing his knowledge with integrators in South Africa.”
 Alongside Rich Green, Geoff Meads will be leading visitors through the event as one of the international speakers. Geoff is a highly respected UK marketer and technical trainer with over twenty years’ experience in the Home Technology sector.
 On the evening of Monday 23rdJuly, all guests are invited to attend a special “Connect with CEDIA” event which will introduce new, prospective and existing members to the Association and the benefits of membership whilst providing a forum for ideas, debate and networking. Later in the week, on Thursday 26thJuly, CEDIA will host a VIP event for CEDIA members, media, architects and interior designers. Media partners for the event include, HiddenWires, rAVe and Audio Video Magazine.
 “CEDIA recognises the importance of raising awareness of the industry to design professionals such as architects, interior designers and developers,” explained Wendy Griffiths, CEDIA’s executive director. “To this end, we have been working closely with the SAIA, the IID and the MBSA and their members will be invited to the event. The night will also host a short presentation on CEDIA’s Designing Integrated Future-Ready Homes’ course plus opportunities for networking.”
