CEDIA: Putting the focus on business Success in the residential systems industry is not just connected to the technology and how you install it, but also how well you conduct your business. This year’s theme for CEDIA in the ISE Education Zone is ‘Developing Good Business Practice’. CEDIA has put together a strong training programme that will enlighten delegates on the skills they need to create a healthy, successful business. “As individuals, we are motivated in many different ways. As business owners we must remain focused on how we initially planned our business,” says Matt Dodd, Vice Chairman of Education at CEDIA Region 1. “By offering motivational support and business process skills training we can assist small companies with control of the business as well as the technological installation.” Following the remarkable success of its training at ISE 2012, when attendance at CEDIA education sessions soared by over 25%, this year’s programme promises to be even bigger and more varied. Seven extra sessions have been added to the course list, with topics as diverse as the industry itself. This year will also see extra emphasis on the role of the internet and technology in business development; an example of how CEDIA tailors itself to the ever-changing needs of the industry. CEDIA will also be running its EST2 Certification Exam on Monday 28 January. The exam is aimed at people who wish to become CEDIA EST2 (previously called Installer Level 1) Certified and is intended for companies to meet the CEDIA membership requirement that all companies employ at least one CEDIA Certified individual. InfoComm: Adding value to the attendee experience At the ISE Education Zone in 2013, the InfoComm University will provide 25 new sessions. Topics range from an ‘Update on HDBaseT’ to ‘AV System Performance Verification’ and – reflecting the growing importance of professional audio at ISE – ‘Setting Audio Gain’. The final shape of this year’s InfoComm University programme at ISE was determined by a European Advisory Group comprising 14 of the AV industry’s leading subject matter experts. As well as taking courses, delegates can also register to take InfoComm’s CTS, CTS-D or CTS-I exams on-site at ISE, just steps away from the show floor and education classrooms. Based on international standards, CTS is the only ANSI-accredited ISO/IEC 17024 credential in the AV industry.
