Barco adds outdoor model to C-series LED displays

The new C8 from Barco LiveDots - which the company claims is 'typhoon tested' to assure reliable outdoor operation - shares its image processing, software and peripherals with the other C-series LED displays.

Barco LiveDots, a Barco company, has announced a new addition to its C-series of LED displays. The new C8 shares its image processing, software and peripherals with the other C-series LED displays.

Offering a pixel pitch of 8.33 mm and 5,000 nits of brightness, the outdoor LED display has been designed for versatile use in the rental and staging industry and for fixed installations.

“We are proud to announce the fifth member of the C-series family which takes the renowned image quality of the other C-series LED displays outdoors,” said Joost De Frene, product manager at Barco LiveDots. “What really differentiates the new C8 LED display from similar products in the market is that we raised the bar on the outdoor compatibility of this display with our ‘typhoon tested’ quality label. This testing program, developed in-house, not only evaluates the effect of water and dust (the basis for IP rating) on the LED display, it also takes the impact of UV rays, varying temperatures and vibrations into account. In this way, we can offer our customers a truly reliable display that meets the demanding expectations of 24/7 outdoor use and withstands the most severe weather conditions.”

Because the C8’s mechanical accessories – such as the truss beams, feet and stacking frame – and image processors are common to the other C-series LED displays, rental companies can use their current inventory to the fullest, said Barco. Plus, as the Barco proprietary calibration technology is integrated in the display, the C8 is claimed to be perfectly suited for cross-rental applications and offers a consistent brightness at all times, even over different batches.

Barco believes that another significant feature is its hermetically sealed and fanless design which the company says guarantees ultimate image quality. Thanks to this slim design, the C8 can also easily be integrated in the most challenging setups. Additionally, the display comes with clickable shaders that can simply be replaced in case of damage.

The C8 is powered by Barco’s DX image processors, which are said to offer high-quality scaling, an unlimited pixel count (by stacking multiple processors), auto redundancy, and 16-bit processing per colour. Its electronic backbone is identical to that of the C5 LED display and the C8 can be controlled by the remote management software. Thanks to the optional light sensors and intelligent management services, the brightness of the LED display is adjusted automatically.
