Established by Lars Wolf in 2001, G-LEC has grown rapidly in recent years, and now has offices in Austria, Brazil, France, Greece, Portugal and the US, along with the newly opened outlet in the UK.
The London office will help to put more emphasis on G-LEC’s new architectural products. “Chimera, which we launched at PLASA this year, is a strong product for us,” noted Wolf, who is managing director of G-LEC Europe and is pictured here (right) with Norton. “We already have 700sqm installed in the BMW Museum in Munich, and we are getting a lot of enquiries. We need a full-time sales office in England and, as we have other partner companies in Europe and the Americas, it made sense to form G-LEC UK.”
G-LEC UK will also support existing UK rental partner Creative Technology, and others as they are appointed. Wolf told II: “CT became a rental partner in October last year, and they have some interesting projects lined up for our Phantom frame products. The concert and television markets are where G-LEC started and those sectors continue to be important for us. While we are looking to grow the architectural product lines, the rental area remains core to our business model.”
“When I first met Lars, he was looking for a UK partner, and as we talked, I knew we held the same values,” said Norton, a former film/TV lighting cameraman and employee of Strand. “Creative and innovative, Lars and his team aim for excellence in everything they do. I also realised that my creative background was a perfect fit for G-LEC, because these are not box products, but a means of achieving visual concepts. I am looking forward immensely to collaborating with our clients to help them realise their visions.”
