PMA Research, a leading provider of worldwide large display market information, has published its latest sell-through tracking report on large-format (32-inch and larger) flat panel displays and projectors being sold by leading U.S. AV/IT distributors who serve commercial markets.
PMA Research combines tracking data for these two product categories into one report to allow for total display market tracking and comparisons between product segments.
For Q1, 2018 combined unit volume and revenues of professional projectors and flat panel displays grew in the single-digits when compared to the previous quarter. Year-over-year, combined unit volume and revenues were both up from Q1, 2017 with revenues growing 23 per cent and unit sales up 17 per cent.
The growth came from both flat panel and projector sales buoyed by strong March sell-through, particularly in the high-priced UHD resolution panels and the laser phosphor projector segments. These segments boosted the revenue growth over 2017 when UHD was still relatively new and laser phosphor projectors at lower price-points were just entering the marketplace in high volumes.
The average street price for +65-inch UHD models was 22 per cent higher than FHD models in Q1, 2018 and represented 16 per cent of the total volume up from five per cent in the first quarter of 2017. Laser phosphor projectors grew to 40 per cent of total revenues in Q1, 2018 up from 27 per cent in Q1, 2017 driving the overall average street price for projectors up seven per cent year-over-year this quarter.
