eyevis cubes manage traffic in Britain’s longest road tunnel

Slim rear-projection cube technology from eyevis is helping to combat traffic congestion through the longest non-estuarial road tunnel in Britain

Slim rear-projection cube technology from eyevis is helping to combat traffic congestion through the longest non-estuarial road tunnel in Britain.

After detailed technical evaluations, AV integrator Electrosonic selected the latest eyevis LED illuminated DLP 50in HD Slim Cube rear-projection system for a new videowall installation in the Highways Agency control centre at Hindhead Tunnel.

The control centre required an extremely thin rear-projection cube; as no rear access was available, the selected model had to enable all installation and servicing to be carried out from the front. The EC-50-LHD-SLIM LED model in the project is the slimmest cube in the world at only 422mm deep (including the screen) and can be wall mounted or basement mounted.

The cubes were supplied by eyevis UK. Managing director Steve Murphy commented: “The Hindhead Tunnel was constructed to reduce congestion and vehicle emissions and we are delighted to have been involved in such an important project to update the technology being used.

“Reliability and being easy to service are key in such an important control centre and the new videowall ensures that the latest technology is being used to aid traffic management.”

The Hindhead Tunnel, opened in 2011, is part of the 6.5 km Hindhead Bypass dual carriageway on the A3 London to Portsmouth road. The tunnel is the longest under-land road tunnel in the UK and takes the road beneath the Devil’s Punch Bowl, a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
