Martin Audio specified for Hed Kandi’s latest

Installation company MSL (Middlesex Sound and Lighting) has selected Martin Audio as its preferred loudspeaker brand for the new flagship Hed Kandi Bar venue in Brighton.

Installation company MSL has selected Martin Audio as its preferred loudspeaker brand for the new Hed Kandi Bar flagship venue in Brighton.

The decision follows the success of a Martin Audio-based deployment at Hed Kandi’s inaugural bar in Clapham, London.

Hed Kandi – which is part of the Ministry of Sound Group, a long-time user of Martin Audio products – is a globally recognised with club events worldwide and a catalogue that encompasses numerous dance music genres.

While MSL project managers Darrel Olivier and Bradley Watson collaborated on a comprehensive solution for the main bar area, seated booths, VIP areas and basement-located Shooter Bar, it was Olivier’s responsibility (with Julian Taylor Associates) to produce a lighting and video solution for the public spaces.

The resulting solution features an extensive contingent of Martin Audio equipment. A total of 15 wall-mounted AQ8 (8” LF + 1” HF) full-range enclosures provide coverage throughout the ground-floor space, while low frequency extension is delivered by four floor-standing AQ212s (2 x 12”) and a single AQ210 (2 x 10”) sub-bass enclosure. Elsewhere, the reception spaces, outside facade and the Shooter Bar feature four C4.8T ceiling enclosures, while an AQ112 sub and separate DJ input will soon be added to the basement area. System management is provided by a BSS Soundweb London BLU-100, used in conjunction with a pair of BLU-BOB expansion extenders and remote BLU-3/BLU-8 control panels.

The Martin Audio spec is completed by a pair of Blackline F8+ high-power enclosures for DJ monitoring. Other AV equipment selected for the project includes a Mitsubishi 4500 lumens projector, Kramer transmission technology, ShowCAD Artist 512 control system and Edirol MIDI keyboard.

Explaining the choice of loudspeaker brand, Bradley Watson remarked that “Martin Audio was recommended because it’s a proven product, with longevity and reliability, and [the operators] were happy to go down that route. Although it’s not a nightclub it needs nightclub-type levels – and they were very comfortable with the brand.”
