Unmasked! New system from Da-Lite

Da-Lite Screen Company has added the Multi Format Imager masking system to its range of home theatre projection screen options. In a response to the home theatre market demand for screens that can display optional format choices while maintaining a constant height, Da-Lite’s new Multi Format Imager allows for sizes up to 16’ wide.

With the masking retracted, the native aspect ratio of the Multi Format Imager is Cinemascope (2.35:1). With masking, it is possible to achieve Letterbox (1.85:1), HDTV (1.78:1) and NTSC Video (1.33:1) formats. Da-Lite’s Multi Format Imager is standard with Pro-Trim finish, which is a fabric frame covering that aesthetically enhances the appearance of the installation while absorbing light that surrounds the viewing area.

“Da-Lite offers both home owners and home theatre dealers a comprehensive line of home theatre projection screens and masking system options,” stated Dan Drook, Da-Lite’s vice-president of home theatre sales.  “The new Multi Format Imager masking system can also be combined with our innovative JKP Affinity Screen series material featuring the highest uniformity in the industry.”

It is possible to pair the Multi Format Imager with Da-Lite’s Cinema Contour, Da-Snap or Imager fixed frame projection screens, which are available in 13 fabric choices in either front or rear projection styles.

Considering the expectations for the new launch within the European market, Da-Lite’s Wendy Long told IE Residential: “We have designed the Multi Format Imager and our other masking products for the increasing popularity of Cinemascope format two-piece projection in the European residential market. The Multi Format Imager allows the client to view movies in full Cinemascope format and then mask to various other formats, such as Letterbox, HDTV (16:9) and NTSC, with the push of a button. The Multi Format Imager is designed for use with our Cinema Contour, Imager and Da-Snap fixed frame screens with a wide range of front and rear projection screen surfaces. This gives the custom installer the flexibility to select exactly the proper projection screen surface for each application.”
