Two new advanced AV receivers from Denon

Ian McMurray 14 July 2010

3D video connectivity and sophisticated video processing technology are among the features of the latest launches from Denon. Both the AVR-3311 (priced at £1,199.99) and AVR-2311 (pictured, £799.99) receivers are said to improve upon their acclaimed predecessors with a host of additional features.

Among the significant additions to all Denon receivers is the inclusion of HDMI v1.4a repeater inputs with 3D (all mandated formats), ARC and CEC. High-resolution audio decoders provided include Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, while both new models feature Dolby Pro Logic IIz for enhanced vertical and horizontal spatial performance at the front. In addition, the AVR-3311 offers Audyssey DSX processing to provide additional speakers at the front-wide area.

Analogue and digital video sources are upconverted to HD quality via Anchor Bay Technologies’ BRS processing to provide a sharp, detailed image from DVD and other standard video sources, while both devices also incorporate a front panel USB port that features an iPod/iPhone Digital Direct playback function. Both receivers are capable of delivering audio and video to multiple zones (two-zone, two source capability with the AVR-2311, and three/three with the AVR-3311), and include the RS-232 port for third-party control. The devices are also officially compatible with Windows 7.

In addition, the AVR-3311 arrives with a variety of "step-up" features, including two HDMI outputs so that a flat panel and projector can be connected at the same time. Other features in this model include the Dynamic Discrete Surround Circuit (D.D.S.C.-HD) for "even more accurate and clean sound from all sources", along with an Ethernet port that allows users to stream Flickr images, access audio and photos from their PCs, and select from thousands of Internet radio stations.

Designed to "enhance and expand" the home entertainment experience, the new receivers will be available from next month in black and premium silver colour (AVR-3311) and black finishes (AVR-2311).

The introduction of these new receivers takes place as Denon prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary. To mark and celebrate the occasion, Denon has introduced a special new microsite, accessible via the second link below.
