Soundcraft’s new Vi3000 console has SpiderCore5 March 2014
Harman Professional‘s Soundcraft has unveiled the latest addition to its Vi range of digital live consoles in the shape of the new Vi3000. The console features the eagerly awaited SpiderCore technology – a powerful integrated DSP and I/O engine based on Studer technology.
Designed for live touring, install and corporate AV applications, the console is the first from Soundcraft to incorporate a built-in 64×64 Dante interface, opening up options for direct recording/playback via Ethernet connection to PC or Mac-based recording software. It also enables the Vi3000 easy integration into an existing Dante network.
The Soundcraft Vi3000 offers full on-board mic and line IO, and is configurable up to 48 mic line inputs and 16 line outputs using combinations of 16 channel XLR modules in four rear-mounted slots. In addition, the console includes two 64 channel expansion slots for the addition of MADI-based Stageboxes. These slots can also provide access to the extensive range of D21m I/O option cards. What’s more, there’s an optical MADI interface designed for either record feeds or connection of the new Soundcraft Realtime Rack Plug-in processing engine, adding the power of Universal Audio UAD-powered plug-ins to the Vi’s pristine audio quality.
The console incorporates Vistonics user interface technology previously seen on Soundcraft’s Vi4 and 6 consoles, albeit modernised so that the 3D rotary controls and buttons have enhanced touchscreen graphics.
Soundcraft focused heavily on the look and feel of the console with a new industrial design, featuring black TFT panels and new side cheek mouldings. What’s more, integral LED surface lighting has been retained and is augmented by twin gooseneck lamp sockets, intended for task lighting at the rear connection panels of the console.
Patented features like Faderglow, VM2 microphone monitoring and Vistonics are said to provide a uniquely user- friendly mixing experience and superb sound quality is assured by a 40-bit floating-point DSP environment, running Studer, BSS, Lexicon and dbx algorithms.
