Sony unveils new 3D imaging solutions for medical applications

Sony has revealed three new immersive, high-resolution 2D and 3D imaging solutions for medical applications set for release in December 2012.

The LMD-DM Series of diagnostic displays, the HVO-3000MT 3D HD Medical Recorder, and the MCC-3000MT HD video camera all build on the company’s Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology.

The LMD-DM Series comes as Sony’s first range of high-quality diagnostic displays and comprises five versions: the LMD-DM50, LMD-DM30 LMD-DM30C, LMD-DM20C and LMD-DM20.

The LMD-DM50 and LMD-DM30 incorporate features such the Independent Sub-pixel Drive (ISD) technology that is capable of producing three times the resolution of monochrome LCDs. Meanwhile the LMD-DM30C, LMD-DM20C and LMD-DM20 can be used in displaying and viewing medical images such as MRI and CT.

The HVO-3000MT 3D HD Medical Recorder is capable of recording at a resolution of 1080/60p and is suitable for endoscopes that also support 1080/60p resolution. What’s more, the device has multiple interfaces to support a variety of camera output formats: HD-SDI, DVI-D, composite video, S video, stereo audio I/O, analogue RGB input, and, for digital images, HD/DK-SDI and DVD I/Os. The unit also supports construction of simple and highly reliable systems, as it can connect to many devices with no need for converters.

Finally, Sony alsoannounced the launch of the MCC-3000MT HD video camera, designed for capturing realistic 3D images from operating microscopes. The new camera, which uses 1/2in full-HD 3Chip-CMOS sensor, connects to the operating microscope and delivers 3D imaging in all three dimensions.
