Saville’s Don Andrew to retire

Don Andrew – one of the UK AV industry’s best known characters – is to retire after 44 years in audio visual sales and marketing, the majority of it with York-based integrator Saville.

A former Cavern favourite and musician with Brian Epstein’s pop stable in the 1960s, Don Andrew joined Saville in 1977. He set up the first Saville regional office in Liverpool, after spells with Studio 45 in Coventry, Bell and Howell UK and Hargreaves Audio Visual.

Handling AV sales, hire and video production, the Liverpool operation quickly became a blueprint for a dozen further outposts which now make up the Saville UK network.

While building the company’s business in the north west, Andrew’s penchant for sales promotion eventually led to a move into a dedicated advertising and PR contract in 1987, in partnership with his wife and co-director Linda.

Over the next fifteen years, Andrew worked closely with sales director Ed Everard, orchestrating Saville’s entire promotional output, including print, advertising, exhibitions and public relations, using design services provided by Guisborough creative agency, DTW.

For eight years he then worked inside the agency as Saville’s account manager before moving to the company’s head office as Group Advertising and PR Manager in 2003 and setting up an in-house studio team.

From October he will stay involved as a freelance advertising and PR consultant, working – inevitably – on the 25th edition of the Saville catalogue, Communicate 2013: Andrew has compiled all 24 issues of the catalogue since 1989.

His role as advertising and PR manager will be passed to colleague Gareth Lloyd, currently digital event services manager.
