Robe: running BMFL moving light at full power does not affect lamp life

The lamp life expectancy of Robe’s new signature BMFL fixture is exactly the same when the fixture is run in 1,700W mode as in 1,200W and 1,500W modes, the manufacturer has announced.

This is the finding of an extensive research and testing programme carried by out Robe Lighting’s R&D department in conjunction with lamp manufacturer Osram, relating to the longevity of the Lok-it! HTI 1700/PS lightsource used in the BMFL fixture, when run consistently in its brightest 1,700 W mode. The researchers found that lamp life time is the same in all three modes – 750 hours.

The project also examined the lumen maintenance of the source at 750 hours when run in 1,700W mode and found that lumen output fell to 60% compared to that of a new lamp. This lamp, says Robe, offers higher brightness after 750 hours than competitor products.

Following two years’ R&D work by Robe, a patented driving and heat management system has been devised for the lamp, resulting in a proprietary solution to maintain the same colour temperature in all three power modes, as well as when it is dimmed from 100% to 20%.

Launched in September 2014, the BMFL  is said to be the brightest and most versatile moving light available in its class.  It produces 40,000 lumens –which represents 250,000 lux at 5m – and a CRI of 92, despite weighing just 36kg.

Robe is soon to launch the second product in the BMFL range, the BMFL Blade, a framing shutter luminaire using the same Osram Lok-it! HTI 1700/PS lightsource.
