Products aplenty at Home Technology Event

test 19 May 2010

Aldous Systems, Crestron and NuVo Technologies are among the companies to have revealed their plans for the 2010 CEDIA Home Technology Event, which will take place at ICC London ExCeL next month, reports David Davies.

Described by show manager and CEDIA operations director Matt Nimmons as "the number one shop window for the residential custom installation industry", the Home Technology Event encompasses both a busy exhibition (15-17 June) and an extensive training programme (14-17 June).

Details of exhibitors’ intentions for the exhibition are still emerging, but Aldous Systems (Europe) has confirmed that it will demonstrate HAI’s iPhone app at the show (Stand D2). Featuring a colourful hand-held interface similar in design to HAI’s other mobile interfaces, the new app allows users to control their entire HAI home or business from an Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. The application is expected to be available during Q2.

Crestron, meanwhile, is to focus on three main product ranges – Digital Media, Lighting Control and Prodigy – although the principal emphasis will be on Prodigy. At Home Technology Event, Crestron will demonstrate how Prodigy can be employed to deploy low-cost residential solutions quickly and easily, including the use of Prodigy Composer software to build a program for an AV and lighting system in one hour.

Marketing manager Petra van Meeuwen remarked of Prodigy: "This simple and affordable solution gives our dealers the opportunity to expand their market to provide home control for every lifestyle and budget. Now, with Crestron Prodigy virtually any homeowner can enjoy the benefits of affordable and reliable home automation."

NuVo Technologies also plans a busy Home Technology Event, where it will exhibit on the stand of exclusive UK distributor Habitech. Product highlights will include NuVo’s new MusicPort (MPS4), which can cater for up to four simultaneous sources, pooling a home’s PC-based audio content into an easily accessed library while also enabling streaming audio from a variety of online services. Building on this platform, the Music Port Elite offers additional flexibility, including an integral IP control protocol to allow an easy interface with AMX, Crestron, RTI and URC.

Philips Dynalite plans to showcase a range of control system elements, as well as software for advanced lighting control and integration with third-party control systems. The company will also operate a mock boardroom-style demonstration room, where an integrated lighting control system will provide visitors with technical insight and hands-on experience.

Unicam will turn the spotlight on a host of new/recent signal distribution and conversion products from Audio Authority, including the 2800 Series HDMI over IP solution. Taking advantage of the latest Gigabit high-speed data technology, this new offer is said to provide "significantly improved reliability and faster handshake speed" compared to traditional HDMI distribution systems that employ standard HDMI cabling or balun extenders.

Away from the busy showfloor, there will also be an extensive education programme encompassing more than 120 hours of sessions across four days. Out of the 38 CEDIA courses on offer, 24 are new for 2010. This year will also mark CEDIA’s first-ever Designing Integrated Future Ready Home Conference, which is the subject of a separate story in this issue of IE Residential.

Other specific sessions include two overseen by the KNX UK Association. Taking place in the same year as the KNX home and building control systems standard marks its 20th anniversary, the two separate sessions will see the KNX UK Association presenting its CIBSE-approved CPD on KNX technology. Attendance is free of charge for both events, which will be staged in the Conference Theatre on 15 and 17 June from 15.00-16.00.
