Pioneer Group to install digital menus in 400 KFC stores

Pioneer Group is to install digital menu boards in 400 KFC stores throughout the UK over the next five months, which takes the total in the UK to 800 stores switching to digital. Pioneer Group will be completing eight stores a night using a combination of 32in – 47in LG displays.

In conjunction with the shop fitting team, Pioneer Group has already conducted site visits for each store to determine the correct LG configurations for the available space. Internally, Telentice software is being used supported and scheduled by a Maler server with content provided by ITG.

Each location will feature five displays above the counter including 32in, 42in or 47in LG professional displays. These all feature LG’s proprietary In Plane Switching (IPS) panel technology with LED backlights.

Brad Scheiner, Head of IT at KFC UK & Ireland, commented: “These installations will see KFC become one of the first QSR companies to be fully digital across the entire estate in the UK and Ireland. This will allow more flexibility to display the menu choices, which span breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as allow us to refresh content in line with real time market information and to run new promotions instantly. The longer term plan is to eliminate all print costs and take digital communications to the next level.”

The project got under way on 13th April, with installations already complete in Manchester, and Pioneer are working to a route which takes them throughout the North East to the Midlands, on to London, Cornwall, along the West coast then back to Manchester.

Paul Childerhouse, group director of Pioneer Group, explained: “We have been working with KFC for the last four years during which time we’ve transitioned 360 stores to the digital menu solution. Now we’re on an ambitious mission to repeat this and increase it by a third in a fifth of the time! Everything is going well so far and we are on track to have the roll out completed by August.”
