Philips launches first LED 3D DS display24 January 2013
MMD, the brand license partner for Philips Public Signage Solutions, is showcasing the newly-launched Philips BDL5535VS, a glasses-free 55-in 3D LED display which MMD claims to be the first 3D LED display to come to market. Besides functioning without the need of special 3D glasses, the display is said to feature innovative technologies for various fields of application and that can increase the viewing-time of the audience by up to 45%.
While being the first LED 3D display, it is also the world’s first lenticular 3D display to be available in portrait mode. With a 150° viewing angle, multiple viewers can simultaneously see the images on the screen and up to 28 lenticular views allow virtual peeking around objects. Unique technology is said to remove cone transitions and ensure smooth and flicker-free videos, while a special optical bonding process provides vivid and real colours. Contrast ratio is typically 4,000:1. Both the 3D pop-out effect and the viewing distance can be adjusted to fit different occasions.
MMD claims that even the most dynamic scenes are delivered in crisp images without blurring thanks to a response time of 6.5ms. Conventional 2D content can be presented as well – and existing 2D signals can be converted to 3D and displayed as stereoscopic pictures.
MMD notes that a study by the University of Tilburg shows that digital signage in 3D is more than a simple method of drawing attention: it is an effective tool to increase the average viewing-time of the audience by up to 45%
