Now available: Toshiba glasses-free 3D television12 March 2012
Toshiba has begun sales of its 55in 55ZL2 glasses-free 3D television in London, in what is claimed to be a first for the technology.
An integrated camera features face-tracking technology, enabling images to be directed at a viewer’s left and right eyes in real time. This removes the need for glasses and allows for 3D images to be seen from multiple viewing positions simultaneously.
CES 2012 (back in January), where Toshiba itself exhibited, showcased Haier’s take on the technology, with its Virtually Edgeless Cloud TV, which also withdrew the need to wear glasses for 3D viewing.
Images shown on Toshiba’s glasses-free 3D television are produced in an offset way to create the 3D pictures.
The 55ZLR’s Pro-LED screen also features a Quad Full HD (3840×2160) resolution, powered by Toshiba’s multi-core CEVO Engine processing platform.
