New Polk Audio system available from Invision5 August 2011
Distributor Invision UK has confirmed that Polk Audio’s top-of-the-range Blackstone TL3 satellites and 5-pack TL350 surround speaker system are now available in the UK.
Announced in the US at this year’s CES, and showcased by Invision at the UK CEDIA Home Technology Event in June, the Polk Blackstone system comprises four matched TL3 Blackstone satellite speakers and a Blackstone TL3c centre channel speaker – with the satellites also available to purchase separately.
The TL350 system is said to boast a truly sophisticated level of performance, and sonic detail usually associated with systems that are many times the size and price. It is designed to be matched with a subwoofer from Polk’s extensive range, in order to complement a specific listening environment.
Incorporating what are described as audiophile-grade technologies for seriously detailed sonics, the Blackstone loudspeakers are a natural evolution of Polk’s RM Series of surround sound speakers – and are said to be the best example yet of Polk Audio’s ability to deliver big speaker sound without the big speakers. Advanced Time Lens Technology is used to align the acoustic centers of the tweeter and mid-bass drivers for superior imaging, while the acoustic lens incorporated in the grille smoothes the tweeter’s frequency response to achieve a balance not previously thought possible in small, satellite speakers. In fact, the palm-of-the-hand sized satellite speakers use many of the same driver elements found in Polk’s Reference LSi series, with a performance that that is claimed to belie their price tag. An extended linear motion voice coil incorporated in the mid-bass driver reduces distortion and extends dynamic range, thanks to several Polk innovations. Dynamic Balance Driver technology is combined with an Aerated Polypropylene Cone (APP) to produce a flat frequency response with sharp detail, transparency, and the ability to turn up the volume without creating strain. For improved mid-bass performance, the TL3 features Polk’s patented PowerPort technology for reduced air turbulence.
The Blackstone TL3 satellites are moulded from an inert high-density resin and housed in a strong, steel-reinforced curved enclosure designed to deliver sound free of cabinet vibrations and less audible colouration from internal surface resonances. Five-way, heavy-duty metal binding posts accept 14-gauge cables, offering hookup versatility and secure connections with other source components in a home cinema system. It is available in high-gloss black or white finishes
