New 3D@Home Consortium documents released2 December 2009
The new publications seek to help define and document emerging technologies that enable 3D in the home. Geared towards industry professionals, the documents were produced by the consortium’s Steering Team 4 (ST4), which is tasked with identifying issues surrounding 3D displays and associated hardware.
‘ST4-01 3D Glossary’ and ‘ST4-02 3D Technology Family Tree Poster’ were produced by the ST4 under the leadership of Insight Media’s Chris Chinnock. The former contains a comprehensive listing of 3D terminology, while the latter provides a graphical representation of the relationships between 3D display technologies and the eyewear required (if any).
"The ‘3D Technology Family Tree’ poster is a ‘must have’ on the office wall of the stereoscopic industry professional and those looking to explore the field," remarked Ethan Schur, co-chair of the consortium’s promotion team and VP at TDVision.
Surveying the future for home 3D, Michael Ciesinski (pictured) – managing director of 3D@Home Consortium – told IE Residential: "3D@Home Consortium is fortunate to be working with leading CE companies such as Intel, LG and Samsung, along with content providers such as Disney, and with the 3D technology supply chain. This intra-industry co-operation will speed the commercialisation of 3D technology and content to the home and thereby provide an exciting viewing experience for the consumer. ‘Must-see’ content will include motion pictures, sporting events, gaming and other forms of visually appealing entertainment."
