NEC DS launches new Cat5 solution23 March 2009
The signal source can be located up to 600m away from the displays, without the need for rack cabling, external power supply or additional external devices. The system – which includes an audio port and an RS-232 interface – can also serve as a splitter and transmit information or content to up to 256 public displays.
Airports, railway stations and exhibition facilities are among the many potential applications of the new NEC Cat5 solution, which is said to offer “significantly enhanced functionality” in comparison with an earlier Cat5 system for video signals.
NEC public display solutions with integrated Minicom Cat5 receiver for landscape or portrait applications are available for the following NEC public display models: MULTEOS M40 and MULTEOS M46, NEC MultiSync LCD4020 and MultiSync LCD4620, as well as Multisync LCD5220 and MultiSync LCD6520.
Barrie Guy, sales manager, PD and retail solutions for NEC Display Solutions, told II: “Any digital signage network featuring dynamic communication needs to have a simple, maintainable method of delivering content, [and] Cat5 is the natural choice for our AV integrators. The NEC Minicom solution ensures that your content is distributed in real-time from a source or player to any number of professional LCD screens without compromising the quality or limiting range and scalability of a system. Our Cat5-based distribution systems, extenders and splitters are designed for trouble-free and cost-effective installation and maintenance, and not only work with our entry-level LCD products, but also with our 20 series range, which have our unique option slot feature and can therefore take the ‘slot in’ version which integrates fully into the screen, creating a total solution.”
