NEC unveils compact laser projector for large education venues

NEC has announced the launch of a new 5,000 lumen laser phosphor projector for higher education environments. The P502HL, showcased earlier this year at ISE, is suited to larger education and corporate venues such as lecture halls and auditoriums and is available from the end of August.

The P502HL has Solid State Light Source (SSL) technology, which allows up to 20,000 hours maintenance-free operation and also eliminates the need for lamp replacement further reducing downtime.

“Higher education organisations today make significant investments in projection technology as it’s a key aspect of the learning experience,” commented Ulf Greiner, product line manager business projectors at NEC Display Solutions Europe. “Large learning environments using projection technology are in almost-constant use throughout the day and evening so reliability is crucial. Organisations need to know learning venues will not be disrupted at any point. Solid state lamp projection is a key technology in ensuring this.”

Students and teachers can add interactivity by using the wireless sharing functionality through Image Express Utility Light and Wireless Image Utility, which means up to 16 people can view shared content and educators can switch between participant’s content. Miracast technology also enables images from mobile devices to be shared with the projector.

Additional uses include large venues such as museums, digital signage and other situations where extended operating hours are necessary.

The projector has a large 1.7x optical zoom, vertical and horizontal lens shift and keystone correction. The free tilting, portrait mode and 3D support enable different installation scenarios and screen sizes can range from 30-300in, with a recommended size of approximately 140in in standard lighting conditions. Multiple inputs are included via HDBaseT and HDMI and connectivity options with advanced wireless options.
