The DSP320 in-wall/in-ceiling architectural loudspeaker has been launched for installers working on whole home, cinema, ‘superyacht’ and single media room projects.
Housed within the 300mm square and 100mm deep enclosure are digital audio converters and two integral 80W class amplifiers for wide-range and bass drivers.
On-board digital signal processing offers thermal and dynamic bass protection with accurate transients, according to the company. Other benefits include enhanced bass alignment (EBA) for music playback and dynamic volume compensation at low listening levels.
Meridian said its DSP approach makes the DSP320 capable of predictable and repeatable performance for a wide variety of in-wall and in-ceiling applications. It also eliminates the need for any amplification within the equipment rack.
Meridian claims the DSP320 delivers superior performance over conventional designs – equivalent to an enclosure eight times the physical volume. The DSP features a special ‘Left and Right’ mode, selected via a switch on the front panel. This mode combines the left and right stereo signals and outputs them from the one speaker, eliminating the cancellation effects and increased harmonic distortion typical with passive single stereo speakers.
Meridian says the DSP320 has been introduced specifically to deliver maximum dispersion over a wide listening area, with minimum unwanted diffraction thanks to careful baffle and grille design. The installation can be flush-mounted or completed with an optional bezel to hold the magnetically attached, paintable grille. All the elements of the DSP320 allow room for on-site adjustment, except when flush-mounted.
The DSP320 can be integrated into systems with Meridian’s free-standing DSP loudspeakers to create a complete system. It can be wired with Meridian’s Speakerlink or equivalent CAT6 cable, enabling long cable runs and click and play connectivity without any loss of sound quality or the need for any additional speaker cable or wiring.
