Following the inaugural event in Amsterdam in January that attracted more than 150 attendees, ISE’s Smart Building Conference comes to Dexter House, London on Tuesday 15 October.
A joint venture of CEDIA and InfoComm International, the Conference is designed to enable systems integrators, custom installers, product distributors and other AV industry professionals to unite behind the common cause of thinking, working and building smarter to drive the future of smart buildings forward.
Speakers will include industry experts and thought leaders including: Dr Steven Fawkes, author of the celebrated ‘Only Eleven Percent’ blog on energy efficiency; Jeremy Towler, senior manager at the Building Services Research and Information Association (BSRIA); John Corbett, director, EnOcean Alliance; Eric Bloom, senior research analyst, Navigant Research; Cees Links, marketing chair, Zigbee Alliance; and Jon Melchin (pictured), director of architectural development, FSR.
Melchin’s presentation, ‘Building Information Modelling: Designing better, faster and smarter with BIM’, will explore this 3D design, modelling and simulation technology, which has changed the way architecture is practised. Melchin will discuss how BIM is becoming increasingly instrumental in smart building initiatives and highlight its ability to draw various parties together to share information about a building, its components and the energy efficiency performance assessment of the intelligent environment.
On this occasion the conference is expected primarily to draw an audience from the UK, and the case-study content will be shaped to reflect this. In addition, delegates may choose between parallel tracks dedicated to commercial and residential building systems, hosted by InfoComm and CEDIA respectively. Alternatively, they may choose to attend sessions from each track, following either of the key themes of Energy Management or Future Technologies and Trends.
The programme will also feature two panel discussions: one on the technology industry’s ‘Future Visions of Intelligent Building’, the other on ‘Building Automation Protocols’, where rival offerings will be discussed by manufacturers’ representatives.
On the eve of the conference, a UK Government funding initiative will be launched that will make £4 million available to the smart-building industry. Rick Holland from the Technology Strategy Board will explain how to submit proposals to win a share of this.
