Crystal Building chooses Barco display solutions

The innovative Crystal Building from Siemens is designed to provide an idea of how buildings can work with technology to create sustainable cities. As part of its fully functioning conferencing facility, the boardroom features Barco display solutions, including its OL-721 Full HD LED displays.

Opened to the public in September, central London’s new £30million Crystal Building from Siemens is a ‘sustainable cities initiative’ intended to provide a snapshot of how technology can be used to create eco-friendly cities and buildings of the future. The exhibition allows exploration of what a city could look like in 2050, with Siemens providing a showcase of its own technology as well as devices from other companies. “Siemens is providing a firm example of its commitment to technology with the Crystal, one of the world’s most sustainable buildings,” said Roland Aurichm CEO, Siemens. “The Crystal hosts an interactive exhibition that explores how cities can become more sustainable, making the technology interesting, inspiring and tangible for the next generation. The Crystal is a great place to visit as well as a place for the local community to meet and relax.”
There are nine immersive exhibition zones at the Crystal Building that focus on a range of issues including: water, transport, city design and management, energy, environment buildings, and lighting safety and security, and healthcare.
Operating as a conference venue as well as a museum of the future, the facility features a fully equipped boardroom encompassing two Barco Videowalls. The first, central wall incorporates 20 of Barco’s OL-721 70in full HD LED displays (pictured) installed at 3º curve, while the second comprises a 2×2 Barco NSL-5521 videowall.
The company’s XDS-1100 control system – a multi-channel video processor – allows collaboration on the display and makes full use of the increased resolution and availability of 3D stereo content. The integrated user-friendly desktop, Barco’s XDS Control Center software running on a supported Windows Operating System, allows users mouse and keyboard control of the sources in a Windows desktop environment.
The system is networked into the Cisco fibre network, which features a core switch on each floor of the Crystal Building and dedicated AV LANs. The XDS connects to the network through the local system firewall and internet security protocol from Siemens. And because system runs over Siemens corporate network, each videowall can display the same information simultaneously at different boardroom locations globally.
Elsewhere in the Crystal Building, Barco has equipped the auditorium ‘Dome’ with an HDX-W18 projector, which features 18,000 lumens of brightness. It mixes 2D and 3D images and is also work through Barco’s XDS system.
Energy management and environment room controls are accessed via the Siemens TC1 Touchpanels. This allows overall control of the integrated energy management network supplied by Siemens Building Technology Division.
