Lutron partners with VingCard for green hotel technology6 July 2012
Lighting control manufacturer Lutron has combined technologies with energy management specialists VingCard Elsafe to create a green technology solution for efficent hotel guest rooms.
The ‘total guestroom control solution package for luxury hotels’ integrates Lutron’s in-room control solution, EnergiSavr Node, with VingCard’s Orion management system. The pair’s latest green technology solution has been designed to keep energy usage to a minimum whenever possible when guests aren’t in their hotel rooms.
Orion encompasses features such as occupancy sensors, door position interfaces and remote server software. EnergiSavr Node, which is fully scalable, connects to the wired or wireless occupancy/vacancy sensors, daylight sensor and wall controls to work in tandem with Orion technology so that ambinent temperature is maintained at a consistent level when guestrooms are unoccupied, ensuring they become neither too warm nor cold.
Lights, shades and temperature are controlled automatically by the system when the room is vacant. Orion interfaces with the hotel’s property management system to pre-condition a room when a guest checks-in, and then resume energy saving upon checkout.
An overview of the system is displayed on a centralised dashboard, while Lutron’s wireless Pico remote provides manual control of all light scenes and motorised lights and shades when guests are present. A wall-mounted seeTouch keypad can also be incorporated into the system to provide further control of the Lutron devices.
The VingCard Elsafe-Lutron solution can be installed as a standalone system, through a property’s existing wireless network or connected via Vsiononline by VingCard – a wireless communication platform that encompasses energy management, guestroom locking systems, and all other in-room devices onto a single platform.
Olivier Perrigueur, Vice President of Global Corporate Accounts of Lutron Electronics, stated: “Collaborating with VingCard Elsafe brings a unique, value-added solution to the global hotel market and provide our mutual clients around the globe with an unprecedented ability to generate operational savings, while creating a unique environment for their guests that sets them apart from the competition.”
According to research by ACEE Report A042: Sachs et AL 2004, hotels can expect to experience a 20-30% reduction in energy expenditures through the combined savings produced by the light and temperature controls in unoccupied rooms.
