Lifesize hops on the Cloud with new videoconferencing solution

Video communications specialist Lifesize has shifted its videoconferencing service to the Cloud with the launch of Lifesize Cloud.

The software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution – which connects mobile devices, desktops, and boardroom VC systems – is designed for organisations that want business-class video collaboration without taxing their budget or IT resources.

The company points towards the growing trend in businesses using IT-based cloud services for their operations as a key factor in the decision to develop this service. Although it stresses IT involvement in implementing the solution is little to none.

Remote participants have the Lifesize Cloud software installed onto their device and can dial into a videoconferencing session ad-hoc – a factor the company says distinguishes its solution from other similar ones already on the market, as these other systems often need VC meetings to have syncrohnised starts. Each Lifesize Cloud license allows up to 25 users to connect to a session in HD video or audio.

Another key component to the system is the incorporation of a directory which allows users to see the availability of others i.e. who is offline, who is available for VC meetings and who is currently engaged in a call.

The system uses compression technology to allow stable connections from 500kb of Internet connection. Lifesize says the solution can be linked to other vendor’s videoconferencing facilities although some key features will not be available.
