Landmark contract win for Promethean

Promethean will install 4,550 interactive whiteboards in 1,900 schools across the Spanish region of Andalucia. The new multi-million euro contract funded through the Spanish government’s Escuela ICT 2.0 programme will see Promethean bring its ActivBoard+2 interactive whiteboards and ActivInspire teaching/learning software to schools throughout Andalucia which, with more than 8 million inhabitants, possesses the largest population of Spain’s 17 autonomous regions.

According to Promethean, completion of the rollout will result in some 8% of Andalucia’s estimated 78,000 classrooms being equipped with interactive whiteboards. Teachers will also be able to join PrometheanPlanet.com, described as the world’s largest online community for users of interactive display system technology.

Paul Berry, Promethean’s president of European sales and marketing, commented: "We are delighted with this significant contract win, which follows a comprehensive tender process and demonstrates Andalucia’s preference for Promethean’s interactive learning solutions. We believe that one of the key reasons for our success was the quality of our integrated ActivClassroom offering, which brings together our ActivBoard interactive whiteboards, ActivInspire educational software and training, and our teacher community, Promethean Planet. This contract is further evidence of the growing adoption of interactive learning technology in Europe, which is a key growth market for Promethean."

Elaborating on the Spanish market, Berry told IE: "Despite the economic challenges currently facing the Spanish government, its Escuela ICT 2.0 programme confirms the importance it places on investment in education to stimulate the economy, develop future global competitiveness and ensure the life chances of its youth. This is a pattern we are seeing repeated around the world as the benefits of interactive technology for teaching and learning increasingly come to the fore. Recent figures from market analysts Futuresource Consulting indicate that just 11% of learning spaces in Spain have an interactive whiteboard installed, showing the significant growth opportunities and long-term potential of the Spanish market."
