Lab X, UMAN in Ethernet AVB collaboration

Network specialist Lab X Technologies and software developer UMAN have announced their cooperation on a development platform that will provide AV manufacturers with an ‘easy and cost-effective’ migration path to Ethernet AVB.

The combination of the Lab X FPGA-Based AVB IP-Solutions and the netOS UNOS is said to deliver ‘outstanding features in a very cost-effective design’. The specification of the streaming core includes the support of all AVB 802.1 standards and streaming capabilities of more than 400×400 channels of audio per device with sub-sample accurate network-wide coherence.

The UNOS core middleware and hardware drivers are set to enable even small R&D teams to realise powerful network products quickly and easily. UNOS vision and creator software provide state-of-the art GUIs without the need for time-consuming programming.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with UMAN,” said Lee Minich, president of Lab X Technologies. “Our flexible FPGA-based AVB Audio IP platform is a perfect complement for the comprehensive UMAN control OS which allows our collective customers to build incredibly powerful AVB networked products and systems.”

“The combination of Lab X AVB-technology and the netOS UNOS is perfect,” said UMAN CEO Jürgen Scheuring. “The Lab X environment provides with their high channel count capacity the ideal choice for pro-audio mixing consoles. UNOS adds a next generation platform- and manufacturer-independent command & control environment [that is] ‘glue-less’ to this platform. The combination of both technologies helps manufacturers to achieve more attractive devices with new market opportunities.”
