Lab X presents first AVB digital snake

Paddy Baker 30 January 2012

Engineering design specialist Lab X Technologies’ AVB Audio platform is at the core of the world’s first AVB digital snake for live sound, a key component of Avid’s VENUE SC48 Remote System, making its European debut at ISE.   Consisting of the SC48 console and new VENUE Stage 48 remote box, Ethernet Snake Card, and VENUE 3 software, the SC48 Remote System is an alternative to the all-in-one SC48 (launched in 2009), enabling engineers to place the I/O away from the console and closer to sources for optimal sound. Fully redundant AVB snake connectivity over inexpensive, lightweight Cat6 cable gives engineers reliability without bulky cable.   A demo of the system can be seen in the AVnu Alliance Pavilion, along with more emerging AVB applications and technologies.   “By adding the AVB digital snake to the popular VENUE SC48 console our customers get the sound, performance, and reliability VENUE systems are known for, plus the flexibility to remotely locate I/O wherever the gig demands it,” said Sheldon Radford, senior product manager of Live Systems and Consoles at Avid. “The Lab X AVB platform perfectly meets our demanding needs for seamless redundancy, low latency, and high channel count over open standards networking.”   “Lab X and Avid are both dedicated to delivering market leading solutions, and with the launch of the Avid system we have been able to deliver the very first Audio Video Bridging digital stagebox to the market,” added Lee Minich, president of Lab X Technologies. “We are proud to have collaborated with Avid to catapult the advanced capabilities of the robust Lab X AVB system into the forefront of live sound, where simplicity and road-worthiness meet.”   Stand: 7Q220
