The Opportunity

 

Your role as Lead Engineer will see you leading and developing a talented AV Engineering Team through technical expertise. You will be involved in constructing highly complex and intricate technology solutions focusing primarily on integrating control systems such as AMX and Crestron with other audio and video hardware, as well as building services such as lighting and HVAC systems. You will be in charge of the technical delivery of smaller projects from end to end, ensuring that designs are translated correctly into fully working solutions and that systems are properly documented and handed over to the service team. You will assist with the training and development of Junior Engineers, whilst working alongside Commissioning Engineers and Software Developers when commissioning or troubleshooting systems on larger projects. Lead Engineers are the ones in charge of quality control at an engineering level, focused on the detail, making sure that equipment racks are built and wired to the right standard. By completing initial testing and sign off, you ensure that every component, cable and connector in every engineered system is wired to the correct standard, ensuring long-term reliability with minimal maintenance and support. At the end of a project you will often find yourself handing systems over to clients and showing them how their new equipment works, helping build their confidence whilst maintaining a great customer experience.

 

Key Responsibilities:

▪ High quality installation during second and final fix phases of projects ready for equipment to be commissioned – cables pulled, brackets hung, speakers flown, Lab-assembled racks and end-user equipment onsite

▪ Complete system projects at client sites with satisfied clients following handover

▪ Racks configured exactly to schematics designed by Solution Architects

▪ Complete onsite test schedules for escalation to commissioning engineers

▪ Completed time sheets and expenses to assign costs to projects

▪ Project reports / photos for projects

▪ Flagging of issues onsite including potential problems, health and safety concerns etc.

▪ Happy clients and promotion of the client brand and values on client site

 

Based in Birmingham/West Midlands salary level is circa £45k p.a. plus overtime and benefits including van, pension, tools etc.,

 

Your skills and experience

Technical skills and experience

▪ 2nd -fix termination connector assembly and soldering to create complete cables

▪ Equipment Rack installation – building, cabling (soldering / crimping), and testing

▪ Basic networking knowledge – IP addressing, subnets, vlans

▪ Installation of projectors and projector screens, including accurate alignment and a clear understanding of lens throw ratios

▪ Installation and calibration of Interactive Whiteboards, Video wall installation commissioning

▪ Highly knowledgeable in all video audio signal types

▪ Video Conferencing System (Polycom, Cisco) installation and basic commissioning testing (e.g. Camera alignment)

▪ Demonstrable experience and/or certification in AMX, Crestron, and Extron hardware

▪ Good working knowledge of audio systems ▪ Strong Engineering/Carpentry/Metalwork skills

▪ Good working knowledge of electrical systems Full UK Driving Licence. Ability to travel and work on projects around the UK
