IVC Media's major resort contract

The systems integrator has been engaged for an extensive install at the new luxury Tortuga Beach Resort & Spa in the Cape Verde Islands. Owned by The Resort Group and operated by Sol Meliá under its five-star MELIÁ brand, Tortuga Beach & Resort will comprise bars, restaurants, pools, relaxation areas, a beach club, gymnasium, shops, 52 villas, 306 apartments, 14 hotel suites and a spa.

The extensive AV, IT, resort security and access control management infrastructure being designed and installed by IVC Media will deliver fast internet access, multichannel HD TV capability, video on demand, telephony, fire detection, door-entry systems and CCTV. All elements of the system will be controlled by a remotely monitored, centralised management system.

The ambitious install will employ a GPON (Passive Optical Network), which is a point-to-multipoint, fibre-to-the-premises network architecture using optical splitters deployed across the resort site. Consequently, a single optical fibre will serve multiple premises, reducing the amount of fibre and central office equipment required when compared with a point-to-point approach.

"We chose IVC Media because of the company’s vast experience in the installation of large AV and IT projects and the clear understanding of our customers’ needs," added Andrew Lawson, development & construction director of The Resort Group. "The innovative use of fibre technology is new to the hotel and resort industry, and will ensure each of our dwellings has a downstream capability of over 2 Gbit/s ready for when suitable bandwidth becomes available on the island. The fibre technology is way beyond the potential of a standard broadband system and will ensure we have the capacity for the interactive services of the future."

Ray Harding, managing director of IVC Media, told IE: "IVC’s selection to work on The Tortuga Beach Resort project is a reflection of our team’s high-level of knowledge and experience in developing and integrating tailored solutions for large-scale infrastructure installations such as this. As one of the UK’s leading systems integrators, IVC’s clients include the Natural History Museum, Welsh Assembly, Guardian News and Media, BSkyB News Studio, Wimbledon and the House of Lords, and so the management team at the Tortuga Beach Resort – operated by the largest resort hotel group on the planet, Sol Meliá – are using a safe pair of hands to complete this important project. The installation also underlines IVC’s new drive to develop its international client base further and share the company’s expertise with customers from around the world."
