HDBaseT gains traction with single-wire TV in prospect

The HDBaseT Alliance is showing a concept single wire TV with just a single input port for all connections, including power.

The HDBaseT Alliance is showing a concept single wire TV with just a single input port for all connections, including power. “It will lower the cost, ease the installation, give a much better look and feel, and ease cable clutter. That’s what installers want to have, and what consumers like also,” said Micha Risling (pictured), marketing chair of the HDBaseT Alliance and VP marketing and business development at Valens. HDBaseT carries HDMI, video (including 4K/2K), audio, internet, control data and up to 100W of power over Cat-5 cable, increasing the potential cable length from about 15m for HDMI to 100m. It is also showing new projectors equipped with HDBaseT, from Epson (which is launching two today), Panasonic and projectiondesign. It also has a new video wall from Orion, and a Panasonic HDBaseT. Belkin has also joined the Alliance, and is starting to ship HDBaseT products, such as extenders and wall plates. HDBaseT is now “a mature technology and we are excited now because we start to see it embedded in consumer products, so you don’t need extenders that convert from HDMI to HDBaseT anymore,” he said. Stand: 7-C171
