InstallAwards finalists: Audience Venues Star Product Award15 May 2015
The Audience Venues category has again proved popular, and having previously highlighted the Best Project Award, here we look in depth at the star products behind some of the nominations.
The Star Product Award focuses on a single part of the installation – a product that performs a key role in the overall system design. We’re especially interested in products that provide a new solution for an existing issue.
Casio ultra short throw projector – The Making of Don Giovanni
The Casio UST projectors were used to project video sequences of costumes being made onto mannequins and set designs onto a scale model of the stage. The exhibition will run for a year at the Royal Opera House, which is the longest period of time any showcase has remained in place.
The UST projector has been designed to work in very close proximity, creating a 2m image from a distance of just 27cm. As with all Casio projectors, the UST projector has laser and LED hybrid light source technology producing 3,100 ANSI lumens, overcoming the challenge of the high ambient lighting.
The design is also completely lamp and mercury free, reducing heat, which allows the projectors to be installed in enclosed spaces, such as the glass cabinets at the gallery specially adapted to fit the UST model.
LG bespoke LED displays – Etihad Stadium
Two 97.5sqm LED displays were created by LG to inform fans and provide an advertising platform located on the North Stand and an Asymmetrical LED Ribbon running around the centre tier.
The bespoke displays from LG feature a true pixel pitch of 16mm utilising a 3-in-1 SMD Single Pixel package. The individual tile sizes are 256mm x 256mm with a visual pixel density of 3,906sqm.
The displays feature a 16:9 aspect ratio, replacing the previous 4:3 format to enhance the content that can be displayed and increase flexibility for the club.
Peerless-AV Xtreme Outdoor Display – Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium worked with Peerless-AV to replace static wayfinding signage and flatscreen displays. The 39 Peerless displays used provide a weatherproof signage solution without needing additional vents, filters or exhaust fans.
Through optical bonding all displays are able to use a 700 nit LCD, which achieves a level of sharpness normally requiring a 1,000 to 1,500 nit high-brightness panel, an option that would increase unit costs and generate too much heat to control without additional HVAC requirements. The Ventless Dynamic Thermal Transfer system gives the display a broad operating range of 60°C to -40°C.
Powersoft Ottocanali amplifier – Mackay Stadium
Aside from improved intelligibility, the Powersoft amplifiers have also created a future roadmap for the stadium sound system and maintain performance in demanding climatic conditions.
By choosing the Ottocanali 1204’s, the installation team was able to eliminate system failures while creating a reliable future roadmap for the sound system.
According to the integrator, each of the older amplifiers drew anywhere between 11 and 17 amps during games. With the new Powersoft units, tests proved they could run the entire system on a single, 20-amp circuit.
Riedel MediorNet – Quantum of the Seas
The Riedel system enables flexible management of broadcast signals throughout the ship and facilitates communications across its entertainment venues.
MediorNet is a real network solution providing more than point- to-point links. This includes signal routing, allowing the user to send any incoming signal to any output or even to multiple outputs or by using a router control system. As a result, MediorNet increases the flexibility of an installation while significantly reducing cabling and setup time.
The InstallAwards 2015 take place on Thursday 4 June at the Bloomsbury Ballroom, London. Tickets for the event are available now and cost £225 or £1,695 for a table of 10. Click here for more details or email firstname.lastname@example.org
