InfoComm UK Task Force research points to industry image and education11 August 2012
InfoComm International’s UK Task Force has completed its first audience research programme, revealing the need to raise the image of the industry and offer locally focused education programmes.
Following its inaugural meeting in March 2012, the UK Task Force sent out two separate audience surveys in May – one to InfoComm members in the UK, the other to non-members. Survey results were compiled and analysed, bringing to light two main topics:
“The first is that we need to raise the bar when it comes to identifying the benefits of InfoComm membership, and the need to raise the image of our industry generally,” commented Chris Lavelle, regional manager UK and Ireland, InfoComm International. “The second is that we need to develop some locally-focused education, with an emphasis on face-to-face training.”
In the wake of these findings, the Task Force has set up two new working groups to tackle the issues; one of which will be dedicated to Marketing and Communications, the other to Training and Education.
The Marketing and Communications group will comprise Sarah Joyce, general manager of HR, Electrosonic; Deborah Jones, CTS, AV/IT sales manager, QEII Conference Centre; Gordon Innocent, chairman, RGB Communications; and Andrew Smith, senior associate, Kramer Electronics.
The Training and Education group includes Frank Sheehan, director, Visual Acuity Ltd(Chair); Jim Sheach, HOD AV, University of Edinburgh and Scott Burges, Business Development Director, Creative Technology London.
The two groups will convene via conference call and will report to the next UK Task Force meeting on 12 September. The Task Force will then prepare a series of suggestions for submission to the InfoComm International Board.
“Within only a few months of its formation, we are already seeing the benefits of forming a Task Force dedicated to InfoComm in the UK,” said Greg Jeffreys, outgoing InfoComm President and ex-officio member of the Task Force.
“We are looking forward to seeing the reports of our two new working groups and believe that they will provide invaluable guidance for our UK members and for InfoComm International generally.”
