IBC 2012: Audio-Technica mics used throughout the RAI7 September 2012
From gooseneck microphones in conference rooms to wireless systems and ‘news gathering’ set-ups, every aspect of IBC will be covered by a wide variety of Audio-Technica products.
In the largest of the conference venues, the Auditorium, a total of 12 wireless channels will be provided by Audio-Technica Artist Elite systems. Microphones employed for the venue include the head-worn BP892 Microset unit with dual-ear mount, BP893 MicroEarset with its unobtrusive one-inch boom and classic AT899 omnidirectional lavalier.
Audience interaction in the Auditorium will be captured by AEW-T5400 wireless cardioid condenser mics, while lecterns are equipped with ES915C18 gooseneck models with cardioid elements.
Room B at the IBC Conference will see an eight channel Audio-Technica ATCS-60 infrared conference system installed during the event. The security of using infrared – as opposed to UHF wireless signals – makes the ATCS-60 ideal for such situations, ensuring no information leakage from the conference room.
Elsewhere, the IBC News teams will be working with Audio-Technica’s popular AT2022 X/Y stereo mic, employing the model’s pair of unidirectional condenser elements to capture the highlights from the exhibition floor.
Alex Lepges (pictured), Audio-Technica’s wireless specialist and product manager said: “In addition to the material support that Audio-Technica delivers at IBC, we also have the responsibility of co-ordinating all wireless frequency usage in the conference venues. Audio-Technica has been doing this since 2006, the first year of our involvement with the event.
“With new regulations in place leading us to avoid using frequency ranges now allocated to LTE, we now face strong digital TV carriers between our wireless microphone settings. In addition, the ever-increasing amount of ENG crews operating around the conference means it is important to optimise our ‘escape strategies’ each year. But it’s a situation we’ve always managed to address successfully – and we look forward to doing so again this year.”
