Hotlamps to host seminar on fake lamps28 September 2012
Hotlamps, the trade-only projector lamp specialist business unit of AV distributor TDMaverick, is to host an awareness-raising event aimed at resellers and the channel as a whole, focusing on what the company says is the growing problems and dangers associated with copy projector lamps.
Leading brand-name manufacturers Philips, Osram and Epson will be supporting and providing speakers for the event. Facilitated by Nick Rogers of PMA, previously Hitachi’s European Business Manager, it will take place at The Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, located at the Madjeski Stadium, Reading on 18 October at 3.00pm.
Gerrit De Beer, Global Channel Development Manager, Philips Digital Projection Lighting, will talk about the current state of the lamp market and outline the dangers of copy replacement projector lamps. He will also provide information on how to spot a copied or counterfeit lamp and show the audience some samples.
Andy Gilks, National Account Manager – Display Optic for Osram will discuss the poor performance level of copy lamps and what a false economy they are.
Nikki Bullock, IP Protection Manager Legal and Corporate Affairs at Epson Europe, will give a presentation. She will look at Epson’s intellectual property and explain what actions the company is taking to protect its rights and prevent the distribution and sale of copy lamps for its projectors.
“Copy lamps have become a strong force in the US and Asian markets with end-users ignoring potential quality and health and safety issues and making purchasing decisions based solely on price,” said Simon Kitson, European General Manager for Hotlamps (pictured). “Without continued channel education we run the risk of this also happening in the UK and European markets. In our position as a projector lamp specialist, we see it as our responsibility to try to bring together the lamp experts from the leading manufacturers alongside the UK’s more prominent lamp dealers, so that all parties can benefit from one each other’s experiences and ensure that copy lamps are kept out of the market.”
