Genelec showcasing new audio IP solution at ISE

test 29 January 2010

Audio Distribution over IP’ is described as a “groundbreaking, new and cost-effective technology for future products”. The new solution is designed to transport (with minimum latency) uncompressed, high-quality audio over a standard LAN network, enabling accurate synchronisation of loudspeakers on the network to create complex, multichannel IP-based audio systems.

With LAN networks already in use in many offices and other facilities, Genelec believes that Audio Distribution over IP will have wide application in the corporate market. In the near future, the technology is planned to be incorporated as an extension to the current DSP monitoring systems product line.

Significant cost savings and flexible set-up are said to be among the benefits of employing LAN networks to replace dedicated audio cabling.

“Local area networks (LANs) and IP-based applications are transforming our lives both in the office and at home,” said Lars-Olof Janflod, international sales manager of Genelec. “Inevitably, audio distribution is also going to change. Our new IP-based technology will deliver many cost, installation and programming benefits to the integrator. Furthermore, our solution will be able to distribute uncompressed, high-quality and professional quality audio across a LAN network, and with its visitor profile, ISE is the perfect launch platform for us to generate lots of interest in this new development.”

Also at ISE, Genelec will exhibit the 4000 series of active loudspeakers for indoor commercial and professional applications. The range – which includes the 4020A and 4030A two-way active loudspeakers – offers new connectivity and installation features geared towards systems integrators.

“In performance terms alone, our already extremely successful 8000 series stood apart,” said Janflod. “But now with the additional installer-friendly features I think we can look forward to a significant increase in demand with the 4000 Series. I’d urge anyone who wants to see where audio solutions for the integration market are heading to visit our booth in Hall 1.”

Genelec can be found at 1K73/1L72 at ISE 2010.
