Genelec introduces new in-wall loudspeaker system29 January 2016
Genelec has revealed an update of its AIW26 active in-wall loudspeaker system, with the launch of the AIW26B. The system features a new frameless enclosure grille to allow the system to blend into a number of different environments and is designed to promote bass reproduction and mid and high frequencies imaging.
“The AIW26B is a continuation of the fantastic work that we have done with our active in-wall loudspeaker systems,” said Sami Mäkinen, AV Installation Systems business manager at Genelec. “This hugely impressive system has a wide variety of applications, and would be ideal for installation in a home theatre, a restaurant, art gallery, or a variety of commercial applications. With its frameless design, the new enclosure grille is able to blend into any environment by neatly concealing the cabinet. As with all Genelec products, a key feature is its precise, neutral acoustic response, which is what people come to expect from us.”
The AIW26B consists of a bass reflex two-way loudspeaker enclosure and a matched remote amplifier module RAM1. The enclosure features a 6.5in woofer and a 0.75in tweeter mounted in Genelec’s proprietary Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW). The DCW provides a stable and precise sound image throughout a larger listening area than what can be achieved with conventional loudspeakers. This improved directivity control also results in more direct (and less reflected) sound reaching the listener, which produces a more realistic and stable image.
The supplied RAM1 amplifier is designed to complement the AIW26B and includes a series of Room Response Controls to fine tune the loudspeaker’s acoustic performance to the environment.
The AIW26B can be used in the main L-C-R array of a home theatre system, critical stereo listening or rear/side channels of a large, state of the art home theatre. The fine mesh enclosure grille can be painted in order to match the wall colour and interior design of any room. The loudspeaker fits into a standard 2 x 4in wall structure and can also be retrofitted to existing constructions.
