Four DiGiCo SD consoles for The CCD8 November 2010
The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) features a quartet of DiGiCo consoles as part of a cutting-edge technical infrastructure.
Encompassing a total of 22 multi-functional spaces, the newly opened CCD features DiGiCo desks in three of its principal areas: an SD7 and SD8 for the 2,000-seat Auditorium; and an SD8 apiece for The Forum exhibition hall and the conference/banqueting space The Liffey. The Auditorium’s SD7 is used for FOH duties, with the SD8 able to be used either as a monitor desk or for FOH, when needed. Meanwhile, the SD8s in the Forum and Liffey can be deployed for any mixing role as required.
The tech spec – which was devised by venue developer The Convention Centre Dublin and consultant Theatre Projects – also includes large d&b FOH and monitor systems in each of these three spaces, along with a comprehensive fibre and data distribution network.
“Seamless integration and flexibility was a key factor. Being able to run on MADI over coax cabling and via the fibre infrastructure was a must-have feature,” said Ian Thomas, project engineer for installer LSI Projects of Woking, Surrey. “In addition, the consoles are extremely compact with great DSP. Not only do they sound great but, by removing the need for external processing, the mix positions take up even less room.
“As with any complex piece of equipment, technical support is a must. The level of support varies between manufacturers and I’m pleased to say that DiGiCo has given both myself and the guys at the CCD a high standard of service and support. The staff has quickly got to grips with the desks, which I believe is a credit to the training days that DiGiCo run.”
