1. LG 55in OLED Screen
The new LG 55EA980V 55in display is the world’s first concave screen that utilises the latest OLED technology. It features numerous types of smart functionality to ensure every inch of Brazilian grass is vibrant and as real-to-life as a display can achieve.
Because the screen is curved inwards, toward the viewer, viewing distance is equal between almost any part of the screen and the viewer’s eyes. This all but eliminates the problem of screen-edge distortion. Other features include 3G technology, LG’s own MotionFlow technology which helps to smooth pictures and emphasis the screen’s pixel clarity – a feature especially noticeable in action films or sport broadcasts (like the FIFA World Cup).

Bang & Olufsen recently introduced its new BeoVision Avant 4k Ultra HD television. Broadcast companies, including the BBC, have indicated that some of the games might be available in Ultra HD after carrying out preliminary testing. As well as being 4k ready, B&O’s slim line display features signature Bang & Olufsen sound and has been designed to produce the best picture regardless of ambient light thanks to its adaptive contrast algorithm, which ensures pitch-black shadows. The company says each set undergoes meticulous testing to ensure quality UHD imagery – perfect for any football enthusiast who doesn’t want to miss a second of action, or a pixel of pitch for that matter.
New from residential audio manufacturer, KEF, is the Ci200RR-THX loudspeaker. Viewers can soak up the World Cup atmosphere in full surround sound by subtly incorporating these in-ceiling units into either a 5.1 and 7.1 home theatre set up or alternatively using them in standalone, music only, function.
The speakers use the company’s Uni-Q driver array, which offers enhanced dispersion characteristics. A 38mm (1.5in) vented aluminium tweeter and KEF’s own tangerine waveguide are mounted centrally within a 200mm (8in) aluminium bass/mid driver.
MMD, the brand license partner for Philips Monitors, recently revealed its own contribution to the world of 4k (just in time for the World Cup) with the release of the Philips 288P6LJEB UltraClear UHD.
The 28in (71cm) screen features a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels, response time of one millisecond and support for over one billion colours. It also incorporates SmartResponse, which is an exclusive Philips overdrive technology that automatically adjusts response time to suit the application.
