First UK deployment of imotion outdoor LCD at Wales Millennium Centre14 May 2013
Display manufacturer Infinitus has supplied the two double-sided 65in ultra-high brightness imotion portrait units that have been installed at the entrance of the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff – marking the company’s debut deployment in the UK.
Deployment was managed by Infinitus reseller Digital Media Systems, which will also be responsible for the maintenance of the units during their lifetime. The imotion units, which replace six-sheet posters, enable the centre to promote its wide plethora of cultural activities by quickly updating on-screen content and catching the attention of passers-by before they enter the building.
The displays contain ultra-bright (2,500-nit) LED-backlit LCD panels with a 10,000:1 typical contrast ratio. The anti-vandal protective glass has been treated for minimal sun reflection (less than 1%), so great content visibility is said to be guaranteed, no matter the ambient light conditions. Imotion’s thermal management technology keeps the inner system at a stable ‘room temperature’ of 20-25⁰C, ensuring peak backlight performance of the LCD panel and maximising the lifetimes of integrated components.
Systems can be fully controlled from a remote location, including accessing the player, even in the event of OS failure. Protective features include emergency failure messaging, sequential cold start and sequential warm start; these ensure that integrated elements never work outside their limits and are supervised at all, lowering the risk of unexpected costs and hence total cost of ownership.
The Wales Millennium Centre attracted more than one million visitors last year and remains the top visitor attraction in Wales for the fifth year running. The Centre also won the BIFM Sustainability and Environmental Impact Award 2012. “Infinitus is proud to be chosen as a supplier of a high-quality digital signage element, as part of the total visitor experience,” said the company in a statement.
