First European install of JBL VerTec Subcompact speakers

Audio distributor Sound Technology has announced that Aberdeen-based integrator CLS has installed JBL VT4886 and VT4883 speakers at the Ghillie Dhu entertainment venue in Edinburgh.

CLS first saw the new VT4886 line array element and VT4883 subwoofer at the PLASA Show in London in September 2009 and, according to the company, felt immediately that the system’s performance and compact footprint would provide a perfect solution for the converted church’s 650-capacity first floor auditorium. Particularly attractive was the system’s directivity, with its integrated Mid/High waveguide providing precise vertical wave front control and optimised 110° horizontal dispersion.

The VT4886 Subcompact Passive Three-Way Line Array Element is designed to deliver high quality reinforcement of music and speech in a wide variety of applications including concert audio and corporate A/V presentations of all types for both portable users and fixed venue installations. The VT4883 Subcompact Dual 12in Cardioid-Arrayable Subwoofer Line Array Element is a companion low frequency extension for the VT4886.

Downstairs in the 350-capacity main bar/restaurant, 16 JBL Control 25s on 100V line are distributed to the three separate zones.

Also featured in the £4+ million upgrade are latest generation, reconfigurable, IP-addressable Soundweb London BLUs.  Four networked BLU-160s form the digital backbone, with local control through a BLU-10 programmable remote at the stage (programmed in House and Stage system modes) and a couple of local BLU-5s offering further control in the ancillary areas. Feeds come from HD computers, various line devices, DJ and AKG stage microphones.

These facilities enable access straight into the systems from the control network to change gain structures and system presets in real time – an important capability given the wide range of events and sudden changes required. This includes access to the background system in the main area, where a pair of JBL’s new CBT70 subwoofers add warmth and body to the system.
