PLASA Focus Leeds 2017 show preview

PLASA Focus Leeds 2017 opens its doors tomorrow (9-10 May), with a host of product launches and UK debuts confirmed, including Martin Audio, Shure, Bose and Roland.

Chris Toulmin, director of events division at PLASA commented: “If these exciting products weren’t enough, for the first time at PLASA Focus Leeds you can learn more about Dante networking by Audinate, participate in a BBC Yorkshire Tour, and discover the very latest industry insights at the free to attend seminar programme. We are also pleased to be working in collaboration with the Production Services Association (PSA) to deliver the first in a series of panel discussions highlighting the emotional and psychological issues faced by so many in the entertainment and creative industries as part of their working lives.”

The Dante Networking Event hosted by Audinate includes presentations, training workshops and live table-top displays from sponsors including Bose, d&b audiotechnik, Focusrite, Out Board (TiMax SoundHub) and Roland. This event is recommended to anyone involved with the installation of networked audio systems including design consultants, system integrators and live sound engineers.

Martin Audio is giving the Wavefront Precision Series (picture right) of multipurpose line arrays a UK debut. The series draws on the research and technology behind the MLA Series, bringing coverage consistency and control to a broader range of touring applications, installations and budgets.

Bose is set to introduce its ShowMatch DeltaQ Array loudspeaker for both rental and installed applications. The compact and versatile loudspeaker features DeltaQ next-generation array technology, offering the ability to build traditional (J-Array or Constant Curvature) and DeltaQ array configurations.

Elsewhere, ClearCom is showcasing the FreeSpeak II distributed wireless communication system, which operates in license-free frequency bands 1.897-1.933GHz and 2.4GHz. A working system integrated into other ClearCom solutions will be on show at Autograph on Stand N-B20.

Van Damme Cable has announced its solid conductor Cat 7 and stranded conductor Cat 6A TourCat cables will be on show. The cables offer a compromise between performance and flexibility, essential for current and future AV equipment connectivity. Suited to use with Neutrik’s Cat 6A Ethercon connector, or the VDC Cat 6A RJ45 connector.

Additionally, Shure is exhibiting its Axient Digital Wireless System (pictured right), which builds on the UHF-R, ULX-D and Axient wireless systems. The new wireless platform is said to be suited to all professional productions and situations.

Roland is showing the company’s VR-4HD AV mixer with built-in USB 3.0 for web streaming and recording. It is designed to be a complete HD studio and production solution for schools, churches, council meetings, corporate events, sports, training sessions or any other live event.

Along with the latest new products, PLASA Focus Leeds will also have a strong line-up of seminar content, providing the opportunity for further professional development.

Seminar highlights include:

‘Pro Audio Panel: Is Point Source Fighting Back?’ – Line array has had it all its own way for too long: the applications for point source loudspeakers are many and varied and some of the best designs are represented in the North of England. Chaired by Phil Ward hosting Douglas Jones – Danley Sound Labs, John Newsham – Funktion One and Jon Burton.

‘The Challenges of Lighting Performances in Non-traditional Spaces’ – The Association of Lighting Designers will explore performance outside the confines of a ‘traditional’ built theatre using case studies of work based in and around Leeds and the recent Transform Festival as examples.

‘Visualisation at The Royal Opera House’ by James Simpson, Lighting Visualiser, The Royal Opera House talking about some of the latest projects from The ROH, how it is achieved technically and a brief look into the future of visualisation technology. Simpson will also be talking for the first time about a new R&D project being developed at the ROH.
